Incorporating BD’s exclusive Variable Orifice Technology, the BD Diesel Exhaust Brake provides up to 150 retarding horsepower throughout the engine’s RPM range – not just at high rpm like other brands. The rugged, cast-iron housing incorporates BD’s exclusive alumibronze bushing and piston ring-sealed, stainless steel butterfly shaft that has proven to stand up under the harsh, high-heat conditions of the exhaust environment. The BD Brake is the most widely-recognized exhaust brake in the industry for one simple reason: it’s the best! Descending grades with trailers can be hazardous, tricky situations, resulting in over heated service and trailer brakes, that leads to brake fade, excessive wear, and costly unwarranted repairs. BD Engine brake has been the industries time proven variable regulating back-pressure exhaust brake.

BD Diesel uses their exclusive Variable Butterfly Technology, providing peak retarding power throughout the engine’s rpm range unlike some models that rely on a hole or orifice within the butterfly to calibrate back-pressure. Using a hole/orifice is only effective in the higher engine RPM range.

The advantage to regulating the butterfly versus other brands is The Butterfly is constantly exercising thus reducing the possibility of carbon and rust deposit forming that can cause premature ware and binding. Furthermore no maintenance or lubricating is required providing miles of trouble free service.

Controlled by a lighted On/Off toggle switch or optional stick-mounted rocker switch for manual transmissions, the BD brake communicates with the engine’s electronic idle verification board for quick engagement creating exhaust back pressure into the engine effectively.

BD Diesel Exhaust Brake Features

• The exclusive BD alumibronze bushing and a stainless steel shaft that incorporates 3 piston rings prevents exhaust leakage and the butterfly shaft from sticking open or closed.
• BD’s spring loaded air cylinder ensures the butterfly always returns to the open position and the quick release valve is designed for a smooth butterfly opening cycle.
• BD’s butterfly, rotating shaft, lever, brackets and all mounting hardware are made of corrosion resistant stainless steel.

Remote Mount vs. Turbo Mount?

• Remote Mount brakes are used for applications where engine compartment space is a problem and mounting the exhaust brake in the main exhaust system is the only option, or, turbo mount is not available (I.E. Van application or Motorhome).
• Turbo Mount brakes mount directly onto (or immediately behind) the turbocharger. These brakes are usually easier to install and have the quickest activation. This is generally the preferred brake to install unless installation room is an issue.

Why does my intercooler hose keeps popping off!? BD Diesel may offer some help.

There are various reasons for intercooler hoses popping off. Some people complain it’s from a defect in the intercooler boot. Others are because the hose is just getting old and beginning to wear. Sometimes its just too much boost pressure – coupled with an aging hose. All of it is bad, and for the most part can be remedied simply. Some people try using multiple clamps along with some hairspray or superglue or some kind of magic ritual when the stars are aligned just right. This usually will not work. Some people buy entirely new intercoolers to solve the problem. I say why not try a new hose and clamp set? It worked for me. It may work for you too.

Eye-catching blue Nomex silicone hoses can withstand over 100 psi pounds per square inch of boost, and are secured by rugged, spring-loaded, stainless steel T-bar clamps. Engineered for each individual application, BD hose and clamp kits are a must for any modified turbo diesel.

BD Diesel’s Electronic Boost Builders

Dodge Cummins 5.9L/6.0L (1989-2007)

Get more performance out of your electronically controlled engine by plugging in one of BD’s Electronic Boost Builders. Installed in-line with the MAP sensor, the Electronic Boost Builder increases boost pressure and intercepts the message to the ECM, preventing it from setting an overboost trouble code that can cost between 50-80 horsepower. BD’s Boost Builders are a perfect match for engines with power module, injector or turbo enhancements.

If you don’t have a chip or tuner, better injectors or better turbo, the builder wont do anything for you. The boost builder fools the computer into thinking there is less boost than there really is. In stock format when the computer sees more than 24psi of boost it will cut back on fuel. By fooling it, you will allow it to continue to fuel and make more power.

Transmission Shift Strategy Modifications

BD’s exchange valve bodies are modified, tuned and tested to provide optimum performance in towing and performance applications. These units feature revised valve design, new springs, larger oil ports and proprietary governor piston dimensions. Hand lapped surfaces prevent internal leakage, while new trim valves increase mainline pressure. The end result is improved shift quality, increased clutch holding capacity, reduced friction and extended transmission life. What’s more, BD’s Dodge valve bodies allow for first and second gear lock-up – a great feature for slowing heaving loads down steep grades (TowLoc/TorqLoc required) Add longevity and performance to your transmission, while making your truck fun to drive.

An economical way to improve the performance and clutch life of your stock transmission is to install a BD Performance Valve Body. Our complete upgrade of the stock valve body consists of new valve designs, increased capacity springs, revised oil circuits and optimized governor piston dimensions which the improved oil flow reduces temperatures and lowers torque converter evacuation time for quicker clutch apply.

BD’s NEW DESIGN achieves up to 80% higher clutch apply pressures over the stock unit and up to 50% over the competitors with the increase starting at much lower engine rpm’s and at lighter throttle pedal position movement. Light throttle shift firmness is also maintained at these higher apply pressures.

This new building process also eliminates the often referred to “Shuttle Shifting” or hunting-for-gears in the 2004-2006 48RE transmissions.

With the new designed valve bodies achieving the higher pressures, a BD PressureLoc is no longer needed when an exhaust brake is installed to assist in preventing converter lock up clutch slippage – this unit does it all!

We also added second gear lock-up capability that with the addition of one of our TorqLoc or TowLoc kits can offer serious engine retarding capability on towing applications.

Each valve body is tested to ensure proper function before shipping. While you’re replacing the valve body, add one of our heavy duty aluminum oil pans for greater oil capacity, cooler oil temperature and improved case rigidity.

Made from high quality Chrome-alloy steel, our pins are machined with a duel process that are first rough milled with a precision radius angle cut, heat treated to the 52 Rockwell hardness scale, then a final precision ground radius cut – this process overcomes wear patterns and resulting failure.
