Ford 6.0L 2003-2004 F-Super & Excursion lack of power condition, surge, or turbocharger flutter after performing Field Service

Ford 6.0L 2003-2004 F-Super & Excursion lack of power condition, surge, or turbocharger flutter after performing Field Service

OC Diesel discovered that some Ford 6.0L 2003-2004 F-Super Duty and 6.0L Excursion vehicles built on or before 9/29/2003 may experience a P006A, P132B, P0401 or P0402 diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) with a lack of power condition, surge, or turbocharger flutter after performing Field Service Action or after recalibrating the vehicle with the inferred Exhaust Pressure (EP) strategy. This inferred EP strategy does not use the Exhaust Back Pressure (EBP) sensors input, although the EBP sensor must remain connected to the tube and the wiring harness.

OC Diesel service technicians use procedures to repair troubles after receiving the inferred EP calibration update. There are a variety of reasons why a customer could experience a lack of  power condition with the inferred EP calibration.

These can include causes a person may not directly see as impacting the condition or codes set. For example; a Mass Air Flow (MAF) / Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) code can be related to a MAF sensor or a MAP sensor problem. However, those codes can be caused by other items such as: intake leak, exhaust leak, Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) problems, and aftermarket modifications.

Ford 6.0L Lack of Power, White/Black Smoke or a Surge

This information apply to all FORD: 6.0L 2003-2005 Excursion
6.0L 2003-2007 F-Super Duty
6.0L 2004-2009 E-Series
6.0L 2004-2007 F-650, F-750

OC Diesel knows that some 2003-2007 F-Super Duty, 6.0L 2004-2007 F-650/750, 6.0L 2003-2005 Excursion and 6.0L 2004-2009 Econoline vehicles may exhibit one or a combination of the following concerns: lack of power, white/black smoke or a surge.

Pertaining to 6.0L 2003-2007 F-Super Duty, 6.0L 2003-2005 Excursion, and 6.0L 2004-2009 Econoline these concerns may or may not be accompanied by any one, or a combination, of the following diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs): P0238, P0299, P0404, P0478, P2262 and/or P2263. These concerns and/or DTCs could be a result of cooking deposits inside the turbocharger for which OC Diesel has a solution.

The 6.0L 2004-2007 F-Super Duty 650-750 may have these concerns and may not be accompanied with the following DTCs: 261, 342, 343, 353, 354 and/or 361. These concerns may also be a result of cooking deposits inside the turbocharger.

OC Diesel can help these cooking deposits concerns that may be affecting the inside of  your turbocharger turbine housing. The cooking can impede vane response causing high or low instances of exhaust pressure and will usually decrease fuel economy, too. Unexpected exhaust pressure results can cause over-boost, under-boost, insufficient or excessive exhaust gas recirculation, or unexpected EGR valve position, resulting in fatal engine wear.

2003-2007 6.0L Ford No Start / Hard Start / Runs Rough

If you own or operate a 2003-2005 6.0L Excursion, 2003-2007 6.0L Ford Super Duty, or 2004-2009 6.0L Ford E-350, E-450, E-550, read this useful information:

OC Diesel recognizes that some 2003-2005 6.0L Excursion, 2003-2007 6.0L Ford Super Duty, and 2004-2009 6.0L Ford E-350, E-450, E-550 series vehicles equipped with a 6.0L Ford diesel engine may experience no starts, hard starts or rough running when cold and may be accompanied with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0611, P1378 and/ or all 8 injector circuit codes. These symptoms may lessen or disappear when the engine is warm. These conditions may be caused by the Fuel Injection Control Module (FICM) or injector spool valve sticking internally during cold engine operation.

OC Diesel takes a methodological approach in the matter to overcome what may be a very frustrating situation for you, the customer. With their highly qualified team technicians who have experience with every possible diagnosis/problem when it comes to the 6.0L Ford it is not a big task for OC Diesel Technicians to overcome a resolution to your problem.

In some cases the failed FICM module can cause diagnostic trouble codes related to injectors even when the injectors or injector wiring are not at fault. OC Diesel Technicians take measures in checking the FICM module for proper operation before evaluating injector operation or wiring issues. Be assured OC Diesel will diagnose and deliver the correct resolution to your annoying problem accurately and quickly.

Other possible causes of this problem exist from “stiction”.  These conditions are caused by the injector spool valve sticking internally during cold engine operation. Engine oil temperature can be improved by using the lightest possible specified weight oil during winter months. Call OC Diesel for advice in choosing the best possible fluid to utilize during these months of operation.

Trinity T-1000 from DiabloSport

DST1000-2

1. Virtual Gauge Monitor
The Trinity T-1000 from DiabloSport is one of the most advanced diagnostic tuning devices on the market today. With over 100MB of on board memory devoted solely to recording and playing back diagnostic PID/DMR data, it allows users to record hours and hours of continuous data streams directly from the vehicle’s PCM/ECM.

The Trinity interprets PID and DMR data received from the OBD-II Diagnostic port on your vehicle and converts it into a readable format: A Virtual Gauge! Individual user customization is one of Trinitys most recognizable features.

2. Performance Programmer
The Trinitys tuning options vary depending on the vehicle that is being tuned. Gasoline powered vehicles feature tunes based on minimum octane ratings while Diesels are based on Horse Power Ratings.

Diesel Tuning: Diesel trucks have massive horsepower and torque potential that can be unlocked just by programming the vehicle’s PCM or Powertrain Control Module. Your application may have tunes for any of the following, plus more!

Towing: This setting is generally a of 40-60 HP and an average of 100 Ft/Lbs of torque (depending on application) and is for use when towing heavy loads near the applications factory towing capacity. This setting is designed to increase drivability while towing, net extra economy when cruising at highway speeds, and is helpful when driving through mountains while towing.

Economy: Adds between 60-100 HP and 180-200 Ft/Lbs of Torque, economy gains average in the 2-3 MPG range (Highway)! This setting is not designed for heavy towing- limits are in the range of 6,000-8,000 pounds depending on your vehicle’s stock towing capacity. DiabloSport highly recommends the use of an aftermarket cold air intake and exhaust (4 inch diameter at the down pipe).

Extreme: This tune adds anywhere from 100-185 horsepower and 220+ Ft/Lbs of torque and is specifically for peeling out down the strip! DiabloSport recommends only using the extreme tuning options if you have an exhaust and cold air intake due to a possible increase in EGT.

3. Diagnostic Code Reader
Trinity can also be used as a diagnostic code reader. Save yourself hundreds of dollars each year reading/clearing your own computer codes rather than paying a dealer to do the same. Its as easy as a few simple steps.

Step 1: From the main menu of the Trinity select “Diagnostics” Select “Show Trouble Codes” to show the last trouble codes your vehicles PCM displayed.

Step 2: Press the desired trouble code to see a full text description of that code.

Step 3: Once you have seen the trouble codes listed in your vehicles computer, you will want to clear them. In order to do this, press the back button on the right hand side of your Trinity’s screen and select “Clear Trouble Codes” from the trouble codes menu. The Trinity will then display that the faults have been cleared! Press continue…

Step 4: You have now cleared all trouble codes from your vehicles computer!

Works on the Following Applications:
  • GM Duramax 6.6L (2006-2009) 2500/3500/4500
