Dual vs. Single Exhaust Systems

Have you ever wondered if dual exhaust systems are quieter than single exhaust systems? Well, you are not alone Diesel Tech Magazine writers has asked themselves that very question and have gone out to find the answers for you. It seems that dual exhausts are not necessarily quieter, but they do have less in-cab noise and less of a drone.

The reason for that is that sound waves in dual exhausts end up splitting between each side of the vehicle so noise resonating back into the cabs is often canceled by opposing waves.  However, outside of the cab a dual exhaust can be just as loud as a single, with 5” exhaust being typically louder than a 4” system.  It seems that control of noise levels then really comes down to finding the right muffler. Diesel Tech Magazine recommends Banks Monster Exhaust Systems and BD Diesel Mufflers.

What’s the deal with Ceramic Coated Exhausts and Tips?

OC Diesel now carries Bully Dog’s Ceramic Coated Exhausts with Tips! But what’s the deal with ceramic coating, is it a superior or inferior product?

Internal engine components are made from dissimilar metals. And due to the lack of molding similarities of these components, they absorb and dissipate heat at different cycling periods. This is where ceramic coating comes in. A ceramic coat covers all the dissimilar metals and makes them uniform. This protects and cools the engines internal and external components and contributes to noticeable horsepower and performance gains.

The ceramic coating provides better laminar flow than any other exhaust available in the aftermarket whether in be stainless steel, a larger diameter, or dual. This coating greatly reduces thermal radiation to take exhaust flow to a near maximum.

The ceramic coating has a very attractive luster that improves the appearance of the exhaust system. It will maintain that luster for the life of the vehicle and beyond with minimal maintenance. Even with extreme temperatures the coating will not experience bluing or yellowing like stainless or chrome.

OC Dieselproudly carries BD Diesel’s new Stack Exhaust Kits!! The Universal Stack Exhaust Kits features 5” T409 stainless steel tubing with a single / dual outlet design. This integrates an internal plate to ensure balanced exhaust flow out of both polished T304 stainless steel stacks. The kit also comes with all clamps and hardware. The Stack Exhaust Kit can be used on any Dodge Cummins, Ford Powerstroke, or GM Duramax model.

The universal kits will come together with most aftermarket turbo down-pipes but if no performance down-pipe is installed, BD Diesel has T409 stainless down-pipe kits available to complete the installation!
