Harness Rub in 04.5-06 Duramax LLY

A common problem that we are seeing with the 2004.5 to 2006 GM Duramax LLY engines is what is known as a harness rub. The injectors wiring harness is zip tied to the metal flange by the alternator. The problem being that the harness loom stops too short and leaves just a thin layer of protective material between the metal flange and the wire inside the harness.

Vibrations cause the metal to rub against and through the thin layer and into the insulated wires which ends up exposing the wires.

To prevent this problem with your LLY Duramax, cut the zip tie and cover the harness with more wire loom or a piece of rubber hose or anything else that can act as a protective guard between the metal and the wire. Make sure to zip tie it securely in place against the metal flange.

Ford Powerstroke 6.0L Problems?

If you have a 6.0L Ford Powerstroke, we’re sure you have come across some of the problems this troublesome engine has since its release in 2002.

Ford Powerstroke 2003 to 2004 medium and heavy duty pickups have been the real issue for Ford and has cost them money in abnormally volume of warranty repairs as well as Ford’s “Built Ford Tough” image.

As reported by Autoweek, Ford has been sued 58 times over 6.0L engine and within the first nine months of the 2005 warranty, cost at the company have raised by $500 million.

Although the 6.0L Powerstroke has been partially redesigned by its supplier, International Truck and Engine Corp., some technicians are still struggling with this complex unit.

The newer Ford Powerstrokes, such as the 6.4L Super-Duty pickups, have a much better record than those of the 6.0L 2003 and 2004 model engines.
